Joseph and Restoration (Genesis 42-45)

On Sunday I had the privilege of preaching at Oxford Community Church, continuing a series on the life of Joseph. We looked at Genesis 42-45, this long stretch in which Joseph is reunited with his brothers after 22 years. But rather than revealing his identity to them immediately, he puts his brothers through a series of tests to reveal the state of their hearts.

In this talk we considered the theme of reconciliation, and how God calls us to be people who demonstrate the gospel, by cultivating lives of repentance and forgiveness.

And we also saw how this story points us to Jesus, the one who can reconcile us to the Father, removing our guilt and shame, and bringing us into new life.

If you’re interested, you can check out the audio or the video (the talk starts at about 47 mins in the livestream).
